Rogerstone Councillors Chris Evans and Sally Mlewa visited Scholar’s Rise in Rogerstone on Friday 20th February to see construction of 26 affordable new homes in full swing. The Councillors joined local developer Seren Group and local contractor Waterstone on-site to see this eagerly anticipated affordable development taking shape, just days after the average UK house price topped £250,000 for the first time.
Developed by local housing company Seren Group, in partnership with Newport City Council and local contractor Waterstone, the new affordable homes represent a significant investment in the community by Seren, delivering homes in an area where people might not have previously been able to afford to live, whilst providing a choice of tenures that meets the real needs of the local community.
Built on the former Dudley Factory site in Newport, and named to reflect the site’s previous academic heritage, the 26 stunning 1, 2 and 3 bedroom homes are already attracting great interest, with affordable new homes currently in short supply and rising house prices continuing to make life difficult for new homebuyers. The new homes in Rogerstone will be available for social rent, intermediate rent and also to buy through the popular Serenliving shared ownership scheme.

The affordable prices start from £62,500 for a 2 bedroom and £74,000 for a 3 bedroom home, and coupled with a convenient location close to local shops and all transport links, the new homes should prove a very attractive proposition for anybody looking to buy or rent in this extremely popular area.
