The transformation of the former Dudley’s factory site in Rogerstone into affordable new homes has been hailed by local councillors as a huge success and a welcome boost to the community.
Scholar’s Rise was developed by local housing company Seren Group, in partnership with Newport City Council and local contractor Waterstone. The 26 new 1, 2 and 3 bed homes represent a significant investment in the community by Seren, delivering homes in an area where people might not have previously been able to afford to live.
Rogerstone City & Community Councillor Chris Evans, who has taken a keen interest in the development’s progress, believes the approach taken by Seren Group has secured a bright future for the site:
“It’s been great working with Seren on this exciting project, delivering much needed, quality affordable homes, for our hard working families, children and grandchildren. I know, Seren have worked really hard, trying their best, to listen to residents initial concerns, I also know, that, moving forward, Scholars Way, will form part of Rogerstone’s positive future, helping breath new life into our community’
The development is the latest by Seren Group to provide a choice of tenures and buying options that meets the real needs of the community. New, affordable homes have been made available for rent and shared ownership, recognising the challenge many hard working families face to access the housing market.
Tim Beckingsale of Seren Group commented:
“From the minute we launched the site in March, there has been huge demand for the fantastic new homes we’ve created. We’ve already sold all of the properties which tells us this was exactly the type of development that the local community needs and appreciates.”
